Our starting point for smart security

Blue Flamingo grew out of years of experience bringing smart and connected technology to Europe. From launching and positioning brands to working with retailers and online channels.

We saw devices become more capable, while everyday use did not always become easier. A good camera could come with a cumbersome app. Receiving a notification did not necessarily mean someone could quickly understand what was happening and what they could do next.

That experience shaped our belief: good security starts with the people who live with it. That belief must shape the whole solution.

What we have learned along the way

Devices became connected to apps, footage became accessible remotely and software took on a greater role in the everyday experience.

It also became clear that quality extends beyond the device. Setup, notifications, storage, costs and support together determine how useful a solution is. The experience after purchase must live up to the expectations set beforehand.

Quality lies in how the parts work together. Hardware and software, information and action, and the product and the help someone needs.

That is why Blue Flamingo starts with what people need to understand and do. We then decide which technology contributes to that.

Europe as our starting point

In bringing international brands to Europe, we experienced how difficult it can be to adapt both products and organisations to European needs after the fact. The most important choices have often already been made for a different home market.

A different language or adapted marketing changes only part of that foundation.

That is why European needs inform our thinking from the beginning. How people live and work, how an entrance or building is used, and what support is needed. Expectations around privacy, access and control belong in that thinking too.

Anyone providing security also has a responsibility for the security of the solution itself. Footage and information about daily routines touch people's private lives. Protecting them starts with deliberate choices: what data is needed, what is it used for, how long is it kept and who gets access?

A server's location is one part of that. How it is managed, access rights and agreements with technology partners also determine how much control we can retain over data and its protection. We must be able to understand, justify and explain those choices.

Europe is not a uniform market either. Differences between countries, buildings and daily routines call for attention and room to adapt.

As security becomes more intelligent

AI is changing the role of security. Technology can help organise events, find footage and make information easier to understand. Its influence on what people see, understand and decide grows with it.

Source information, AI interpretation and human review.

A description remains an interpretation. Recognition can be uncertain. And a system noticing something has not, by itself, established exactly what happened or what someone intended.

For Blue Flamingo, intelligence must help people understand and act more effectively. The original information must remain verifiable, and uncertainty must be recognisable. Decisions with greater consequences call for appropriate responsibility and human control.

That also applies to how AI processes data: on a device, on servers or in a combination of the two. Usefulness, security, privacy and dependencies must be considered together. Greater technical capabilities must not become an automatic reason to collect more information or use it for other purposes.

As security becomes more intelligent, care and control become more important.

The freedom to set our own direction

We believe in working with specialists. Good hardware, software, infrastructure and AI require different kinds of expertise.

Our independence is about the freedom to keep setting our own direction. About being able to determine how identity, access, events and security rules come together within Blue Flamingo.

Blue Flamingo sets the direction, connecting hardware, software, infrastructure and AI.

We want to retain the flexibility to change technology and partners when a better solution requires it. A hardware supplier, cloud environment or AI model can play an important role without irreversibly determining our future options.

That calls for carefully considered agreements, an understanding of dependencies and a design that allows change.

Those choices also include maintenance, security updates and addressing vulnerabilities. Responsibility does not end at the point of sale. Technology changes and new risks emerge. Systems, partnerships and data use must therefore be reassessed when circumstances change.

For customers, freedom of choice starts with clarity: understanding what is needed, what is optional, what it costs and what a solution depends on.

The boundaries we set

Our direction is also shaped by what we deliberately avoid.

A larger range is not a goal in itself. Every device and every feature must make a clear contribution to the overall experience.

The same applies to AI. Its value must be visible in what someone can understand better or do more easily.

Our principle is useful everyday security without a required subscription. Optional paid services must add value to the product someone has bought.

We do not want to tie people to a solution through a lack of clarity or unnecessary dependence. Trust must grow from the experience and from choices people can understand.

That is why we only set expectations we can justify. Even when that means explaining a limitation, postponing a choice or advising someone to keep an existing solution.

Where we are heading

The devices we use for security will change. Software and AI will gain new capabilities. Blue Flamingo will continue to develop too.

Our ambition is a coherent security experience in which devices, software and support are developed around the same idea: helping people understand what is happening and what they can do.

The experience behind Blue Flamingo has taught us that the decisions behind a product determine what it feels like to live with it. We want to keep taking responsibility for those decisions.

With a European perspective, the freedom to set our own direction and technology that proves its value in everyday use.

Security that just works.
