What we’re building

European needs are our starting point.

How people live and work, what access they want to share and what control they expect over their data and costs.

Blue Flamingo is developing smart security for home and work. We start with what people need in order to understand what is happening and decide what they can do. From that experience, we develop the connections between devices, software, storage, AI and support.

We work with specialists and want to keep setting the direction for the solution as a whole. That control gives us the freedom to choose technology and partners for what they contribute to the experience, and to revisit those choices when needed.

That is the thinking behind the Blue Flamingo Platform.

What that means in everyday use

Imagine someone rings your doorbell while you are away from home. You want to understand who is at the door and what is happening. You might want to give someone in your household access to view the footage too. You also want to know whether footage is stored, who can view it and what costs are involved.

A person arriving at a shared entrance with luggage

For us, those questions belong to the same experience.

A front door might open directly onto a busy pavement or be part of a shared entrance. That is why we consider the surroundings, privacy and different ways of using a product in its design. We want you to understand the choices you have and what they mean for you and others.

Retaining control over our direction should help us preserve that coherence. When we assess different hardware, storage or AI, we also consider the implications for usability, access rights, data and costs. That allows us to keep developing around the needs of the user.

A platform that can grow

We are building the Blue Flamingo Platform around a modular approach. Hardware, software, storage, infrastructure and AI should be able to evolve while the solution remains coherent.

We want to be able to improve, expand or replace individual parts when new technology gives us a reason to do so. That is why we also assess technical choices and partnerships for the room they leave for future change.

We want to prevent dependence on one supplier, technology or AI model from determining the direction of the whole platform or holding back innovation.

A central direction with replaceable connected parts

That flexibility serves the whole solution. Each change should contribute to a better solution, with attention to its implications for usability, security, data and existing users.

In this way, we want to keep room for innovation and remain responsible for the experience all the parts provide together.

Devices that fit the situation

A front door, a living room and business premises each place different demands on security. Our planned product range includes a video doorbell, wireless cameras, wired cameras and a network video recorder.

We consider the role of each device. What information do you need there? How does it fit into your daily routine? And what does it require in terms of installation, connectivity and maintenance?

Those questions determine which products we develop and how they should work together within the wider solution.

One experience, from the beginning

Viewing a notification, understanding what happened and finding a recording are steps in the same experience. That is why we design the app and software around the actions people need every day.

Information should be where you would expect to find it. Settings should make clear what you are changing and what the consequences are. That also applies when you use several devices or give other people access.

That coherence starts before first use. Product information, installation and support should connect with what you later encounter in the app.

Clear choices about storage

Recordings have value when you understand what is stored and how to find it again.

That is why we develop storage in connection with the devices and the platform. Where is footage stored? How long does it remain available? Who can access it? And what does a choice mean for costs and dependence on other parts of the solution?

We want to make clear what is needed for everyday use and which additional options someone can choose. Handling data responsibly is part of that consideration.

AI that helps, with control from the start

AI is becoming increasingly capable and can add a great deal to security. It can help people understand events, find relevant footage and make information more accessible.

Original information, interpretation and human review

Those possibilities also bring a greater responsibility to apply AI safely and in a controlled way.

For Blue Flamingo, that begins with the design. What data may AI use? For what purpose? Who determines what the system is allowed to do? And how can its operation and outcomes remain open to scrutiny?

We consider the rules and the environment in which a solution is used from the beginning. The United States, China and Europe have different frameworks. Within Europe, requirements can also vary by country and application. That calls for deliberate choices in how AI is configured, used and adapted.

We want to keep setting the direction for those choices. That is why we also assess AI technology in terms of the control we can retain over data, access, settings and changes to the system.

An interpretation must remain recognisable and verifiable. The original information, recognisable uncertainty and appropriate human control belong in that approach. Particularly when an outcome could have more significant consequences.

That is how we approach the development of AI applications: starting with the value they can offer people, with safety, responsibility and local requirements as part of the foundation.

The security behind security

A connected device becomes part of your home, business and daily life. The security of the system itself therefore belongs at the foundation of what we build.

We consider identity, access rights, software updates and the handling of data from the beginning. That also applies to the infrastructure and the agreements with technology partners.

We want to be able to understand and justify how those parts work together, so that we can remain responsible for the solution as a whole.

Support and services that fit

Clear explanations and good help are part of the overall experience. That is why we develop support alongside the products and the platform.

Our principle is useful everyday security without a required subscription. Additional paid services should add recognisable value. What is included, what is optional and what costs are involved should be easy to understand.

Step by step

Blue Flamingo is in development. We are working step by step on the products, the platform and the experience that connects them. We will explain which products and features will become available as development progresses.

On our blog, we share the questions we are exploring, the choices we are making and what we learn along the way.
